MEGA TV WEEKEND CAPS INAUGURAL PBA WORLD SERIES OF BOWLING

A roster of more than 30 of the world’s top bowling stars, including the finalists in the PBA Women’s and Senior World Championships, were a part of the grand finale weekend, concluding the five-week World Series of Bowling at historic Thunderbowl Lanes in suburban Detroit.
Thunderbowl’s Arena Bay, originally built nearly 50 years ago to showcase the ill-fated National Bowling League, came full circle as the site for six ESPN television events. The talented cast of players will make their ESPN television appearances over a span of seven consecutive weeks beginning Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. ET.

Bowling on the PBA Viper Pattern

Here are some tips for attacking the Viper Pattern.

Length: 37 feet

A viper strikes with multiple angles of attack. This pattern will challenge players to attack the pins from multiple angles in order to score well.

2008 Winners on Viper: It was a day of firsts as Brad Angelo and Stefanie Nation each captured their first career PBA title at the Pepsi Viper Championship at Thunder Alley in Omaha, the second stop of the 2008-09 Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour.

Description: The 2009-10 Viper has also been changed to allow for more ball roll in the middle part of the lane. While the Viper is a multiple angles pattern and normally yields medium to high scores, bowlers this season will need to place a premium on the ball traveling straight through the front part of the lane when the lanes are “fresh”. Once Viper breaks down, multiple angles are available for attack. Even with the changes, Viper still remains the most versatile of the five named patterns and can be used on any lane surface.
