What the Chinese Double Happiness Symbol Means

The double happiness Chinese symbol is specifically a design for weddings. Its symbolism is happiness and the double effect is to double the happiness. The joining of the two symbols echoes the joining of the couple as well as the joining of the two families. The Chinese name for the double happiness symbol is shuangxi which comes from the Chinese symbols for happiness. The two graphemes (or symbols) are combined into a ligature. These symbols are not used in regular writing but reserved for ceremonial events such as a wedding.
The origin of the symbol is in the Tang Dynasty when a boy on his way to become a minister took sick and was nursed to health by a herbalist and his daughter. He fell in love with the girl but had to leave her to fulfill his destiny. She gave him a piece of a poem and in his exam he was asked to complete a couplet which he did with her line. The couplet impressed the emperor and the boy led the competition and became the new minister. When he married the herbalist’s daughter, they doubled the traditional happy character and since then it has been used in weddings. Today it is popular to decorate receptions in an Asian theme, and you can find the double happiness symbol on everything from napkins to Chinese fans.

Necessities of Deep Sea Fishing Equipment – UK or Abroad

March 2, 2010 by Bowl 900

Whether you’re halfway around the world or right here in the United Kingdom, using the right deep sea fishing equipment can help you enjoy your fishing adventure. In sea waters, live bait like mackerel, sardines, and worms, work extremely well. You need to remember, also, to match your rods and reels to the bait you use. The tackle utilised for salt water fishing must be made out of nickel or stainless steel so it won’t be damaged by salt water. You may also need other equipment, such as those for navigation, depth sounding gear, and fish finding gears. Don’t forget to bring fishing baits and lures, and a belt and harness. Those who are first-timers into deep sea fishing are advised to rent their gear first, instead of outright buying, in this manner their next purchases will be sound investments.
